Natasha’s Law: Allergen labelling changes from 1st October 2021

What is this about?

In September 2019, The Food Information (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2019, more commonly known as Natasha’s Law, was laid in parliament. Its main aim was to introduce stricter requirements for pre-packaged foods to carry a full ingredients list, protecting those with allergies and give them greater confidence in the food they buy.

Natasha’s Law came into effect on 1st October 2021. So now, any bulk food (including chocolates and confectionery) that is pre-packed on your premises, for sale on the same premises, is referred to as 'pre-packed for direct sale' (PPDS). These PPDS packs must now be correctly labelled with the name of the food and a full ingredients list, with allergens highlighted.

As the retailer you are responsible for ensuring that any PPDS is labelled correctly.

All the information you need is already contained on the manufacturer’s label on every product you receive from us. However, we also have this ingredient information in digital format to help you produce compliant labels and signage more quickly, as well as some templates which you may also choose to use, and some how-to guides.
